The Journey

A sorrowful morning

My friend's sister (age 33) passed away this morning due to cancer. She accepted Christ last week.

I wanted to take leave to teman her but she said no need. Cuz today will be busy packing things from the hospital. The funeral will be arranged by her Christian uncle (my friend and her family are devoted Buddist, but so was her sister). I smsed her only, scared she's crying and she couldn't take my call.

Then, she called me up and told me of her sister's dying process since last night. My friend was not crying but she has many questions. Can Christians burn the bodies? What's the Christian procedure for the funeral? Life after death? She wasnt crying but I was crying. Her sister had a painful death until her last breath. She was young and she struggled to leave this world. So, she hung on to her life. Until the last moment, when my friend told her, "I'm bringing aba and ama for breakfast, I promise I will take care of the family. You just leave without any worries". And about 10 minutes after they left her bed, the nurse called her phone and announced her departure.

I just prayed that God would receive her. I prayed that my friend and her family would sense the difference in Christianity. That our God doesnt ask us to "cut" short our lives to bring good luck, that our God doesnt bring curses upon the family because of past sins. Our God loves, forgives and cares. Our God brings hope to the alive and to the dead.

May her soul rest in peace.
